Senior Accounts and Admin Assistant

Job Purpose – overview

Your role will be to support the Team Leader in providing an effective and efficient finance and admin service to support achievement of the Charity’s objectives. Manage the workload of the Finance team and take on other responsibilities of the Finance Team Leader in their absence.

Core Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day management of the finance team to ensure a comprehensive Finance and Admin service is delivered internally to other departments and externally to supplier, customers and other external parties. 
  • Provide advice and information to customers, external stakeholders and colleagues ensuring that the accounting policies and procedures are implemented.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve methods of work. Identify and communicate areas for improvement and champion quality standards and quality standard frameworks.
  • Deliver training to members of the finance team
  • Develop and implement procedures and working processes
  • Manage the accounting processes that determine the accuracy of the purchase, sales and nominal ledgers.
  • Responsible for the credit control and processing of purchase invoices that have been authorised and reconciled.

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • An ability to demonstrate the core organisational competencies.
  • HND/HNC in Accounting or equivalent or qualified by experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your own workload and that of others.
  • Competent IT skills especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Competent in the use of the BACS Systems.
  • Basic understanding of VAT, double entry bookkeeping, income and expenditure account and balance sheets.
  • Ability to discuss financial information with non-finance professionals.
  • Previous accounting experience in a finance office.
  • Effective time management skills and demonstrate a high level of accuracy
  • Willingness to continuously develop and attend training and development sessions in line with your personal training plan, on occasion out-with your normal hours of work, to ensure the required level of competence.

Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Experience of using the Exchequer finance system and MRM Plus 2 booking system.
  • Understanding of prepayments and accruals
  • Experience of working in the leisure and/or charity sector 

Job Dimensions

  • Responsible for the safe & security cupboard keys which give access to petty cash, cheques, security cards, and sensitive documentation.
  • Undertaking general reception duties as required.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to colleagues and members of the Finance Team.
  • Contribute to operation plans for the Finance Team, including determining resource allocation and ways of working.
