As part of a funding initiative from the Scottish Government, West Lothian Leisure has partnered up with West Lothian Council to provide free sanitary products at all Xcite Venues.
Scotland is the first country in the world to provide free sanitary products to those in need. The Bill was launched to help alleviate ‘period poverty’ which 1 in 4 people in Scotland experience. Being unable to access sanitary products due to affordability can cause embarrassment and isolation which can influence health. These products are seen as a basic necessity and having them easily accessible, can protect those who menstruate dignity and make them feel more comfortable.
As well as supporting people on low incomes, free period products give peace of mind to everyone who has periods. Knowing products are always there in case you forget them, or start unexpectedly, can be very reassuring. Please find a range of environmentally friendly sanitary pads, tampons and menstrual cups available at each Xcite Venue in the toilet facilities.
