Bathgate Academy pupils are preparing for the trip of a lifetime when they take part in a unique arctic expedition to Greenland!

The group of twenty students which consists of fifteen girls and five boys are getting ready for 15 months of strenuous training with ten of them ultimately being chosen to embark on the 10 day expedition with Bo’ness based charity Polar Academy.

The Polar Academy was established in 2014, in aim to help positively transform the lives of young people who may lack self-confidence, direction and self-esteem.

In order to support the group, West Lothian Leisure and West Lothian Council are providing each student with a free membership @ Xcite Bathgate! This allows them to have full use of the newly expanded and refurbished gym as they train, as well as support from the Xcite Team.

Grant Abbot, Head Teacher of Bathgate Academy said: ‘I am delighted that WLL and WLC have provided our students with free membership @ Xcite Bathgate. The new gym facility is fantastic and is an ideal environment for our pupils to get themselves physically ready for what will be a very demanding challenge in Greenland.”

Chief Executive of Xcite WLL, Robin Strang added: “It’s fantastic to see the benefits of the new gym extension in the local community already! The Polar Academy is an inspiring project giving local S2/3 students an opportunity to boost their confidence, fitness and mental skills. We are proud to be able to provide facilities and expert advice from our Xcite Team to help them achieve their goals.”

Why not take advantage of the upgraded facilities @ Xcite Bathgate and join Xcite now for only £10.00*!
