We’re proud to announce that we won the Innovation & Resilience Award at the 2025 West Lothian Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.
The ceremony took place on Friday 28 November at Macdonald Houstoun House Hotel, where organisations from across West Lothian were recognised for their outstanding achievements. Xcite’s award celebrates the creativity, dedication and commitment shown by our teams throughout a year of significant growth and transformation.
Recognising Innovation at Xcite
The Innovation & Resilience Award highlights organisations that have demonstrated exceptional innovation — from breaking into new markets to introducing creative services, investing in staff, and embracing new technologies.
Over the past year, Xcite has:
Launched new activities and facilities, including West Lothian’s first indoor Padel tennis court, new Pickleball sessions, and our Family Fitness Factory classes.
Opened the Nourish Café Bar at Xcite Craigswood, creating a vibrant social space and new income stream.
Expanded membership to nearly 23,000, driven by improved targeting and insight-led decision-making.
These developments form part of a refreshed commercial strategy built around four core pillars: market penetration, product and service development, market development, and diversification.
Enhancing Our Facilities and Community Impact
We’ve continued to invest in our facilities to create better experiences for members and ensure long-term sustainability. Recent gym expansions at Xcite Whitburn, Xcite Linlithgow and Xcite Bathgate have transformed unused space into modern, welcoming fitness environments — and participation levels have grown as a result.
Our community health and wellbeing impact has also strengthened significantly this year:
2,476 health referrals delivered — a 26% rise
118,207 concessionary visits — up by 21%
£20.2 million in social value generated — a 40% increase
These improvements show the real difference Xcite is making across West Lothian.
Driven by Our People
Our success is powered by the passion and creativity of our staff. Over the last year, we’ve relaunched our employee survey, introduced new customer service standards, and created “Ask the leadership team” sessions to encourage open and honest conversations across the organisation.
Ben Lamb, CEO of West Lothian Leisure, said:
“Winning the Innovation & Resilience Award is a powerful recognition of our staff’s creativity, commitment and determination. Our teams have worked tirelessly to deliver new services, modernise our facilities, and support communities across West Lothian. This award celebrates the difference we make every day, and our unwavering ambition to achieve our vision of a happier, healthier West Lothian.”
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, Xcite will continue to grow its partnerships with health and community organisations, introduce new digital innovations including AI-led enhancements, and keep investing in modern facilities that support healthier, happier lives across West Lothian.
