Concessionary Access Up 46% as We Deliver £20 Million in Social Value

Xcite West Lothian Leisure has reported a 46% increase in Access Xcite memberships over the last two years, reflecting our continued success in making physical activity more affordable and accessible for people across West Lothian.

Delivered in partnership with West Lothian Council, our Access Xcite membership offers a range of affordable memberships and activities across our venues — part of our ongoing commitment to helping communities in West Lothian live healthier, happier, and longer lives.

This growth includes a 21% increase in the past year alone, with more than 118,000 concessionary visits recorded in 2024/25. Access Xcite provides reduced-price opportunities for groups such as older adults, people with disabilities, and those on low incomes, ensuring everyone has the chance to enjoy being active.

Alongside this, our 2024/25 Impact Report shows we welcomed over 2.6 million visits to our venues and generated £20.2 million in attributable social value – a 40% increase on the previous year. We also saw a 26% increase in health (exercise) referrals to our wellbeing programmes. This growth in social value clearly demonstrates the link between increased participation and tangible improvements in community health, wellbeing, and quality of life across West Lothian.

The figure, calculated using the nationally recognised Social Value Calculator 4.0, reflects the measurable health, wellbeing, and community benefits created through participation in physical activity. The data was collected through a 4Global analysis commissioned by West Lothian Council.

Our work supports outcomes across physical health, mental wellbeing, reduced social isolation, and stronger community connections. In specific health areas, our activities contributed to £160,858 of value from reduced GP visits, £689,306 linked to reduced depression, £659,115 from reduced Type 2 diabetes risk, and £227,767 from reduced psychotherapy needs.

As a local charity, we operate on a not-for-profit basis, reinvesting our income into community programmes, facility improvements, and innovative new services – including AI-powered gym equipment and family-friendly fitness initiatives.

Our Chief Executive, Ben Lamb, said:

“We’re incredibly proud that more people than ever are being active with us, particularly those who benefit from our Access Xcite membership and concessionary access schemes. Working closely with West Lothian Council, our mission is to make sure that cost is never a barrier to good health. Every visit represents a step towards a healthier, happier, and longer life, and together, those visits are creating millions of pounds of social value for our communities.

“This growth shows how vital our work is in supporting both individual wellbeing and wider public health across West Lothian.”

Looking ahead, as part of our new 2025–2027 Strategy, we’ll continue working towards our goal of helping communities across West Lothian live healthier, happier, and longer lives — by expanding membership access, investing in our people and partnerships, and continuing to innovate with new products and services.
