Since joining the organisation in 2018, Alex has worked across multiple roles and is now applying to become Employee Director. He describes the position as a vital “bridge between the workforce and the Board” and has expressed a strong passion for ensuring colleagues’ voices are heard at the highest level.
In his current role as Duty Manager, Alex leads teams and supports staff, demonstrating his ability to listen, understand, and communicate effectively. He brings practical frontline management experience and confidence in representing the views of others constructively.
Alex is committed to integrity and fairness in decision-making and has built strong working relationships across a wide range of roles. Open to learning, he acknowledges the responsibility of representing colleagues’ views impartially while contributing to the effective work of the Board.
– Sports & Services Operations Manager
Karen is applying for the role of Employee Director with a clear focus on representing colleagues, promoting wellbeing, and supporting a positive working environment. Drawing on her experience with both West Lothian Leisure and Edinburgh Leisure, she is passionate about our values and demonstrates a strong personal and professional commitment to the organisation’s purpose.
Approachable and supportive, Karen is often turned to by colleagues for advice and guidance. She emphasises listening with integrity and has the confidence to speak up when supported by information and facts.
Her experience includes leading teams, managing budgets, delivering KPIs, and applying legislative knowledge, reflecting a track record of professionalism throughout her career. Karen describes herself as a “people person” and coach, with a focus on inclusivity, respect for diverse perspectives, and integrated decision-making. While she has not yet served on a board, she is eager to develop governance skills and broaden her experience to contribute effectively in this role.

With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Suzanne has served as the Employee Director for the past three years and is now seeking re-election for a further term. Her application highlights a strong alignment with the organisation’s purpose and values, and a genuine commitment to continuing in the role.
During her time on the Board, Suzanne has demonstrated the ability to actively listen, communicate views clearly, and ensure colleagues’ perspectives are represented fairly and without bias. This experience at senior level has been underpinned by a reputation for professionalism, reliability, and integrity.
Suzanne emphasises fairness and respect in working with colleagues and Board members alike. Having completed governance induction and gained three years of practical governance experience, she brings an informed and balanced voice to discussions while continuing to develop her knowledge of Board responsibilities.
