07/07/2016 15:29 Xcite hosts Meningitis Roadshows

Xcite is working with Meningitis Now to provide the local community with access to Meningitis and Septicaemia Information Stalls throughout the summer holidays at their Xcite venues. Representatives from Meningitis Now will be able to offer information and advice and answer any questions you may have.

Meningitis can strike quickly, but its impact can last a lifetime. We know that meningitis and septicaemia can turn your world upside down, leaving many victims with after-effects. 10% of bacterial cases result in death.

Robin Strang Chief Executive at Xcite said “We are more than happy to be working with Meningitis Now. During the busy summer holidays we have lots of families and children visit our facilities and it is a great opportunity to raise awareness on Meningitis and the symptoms. Bacterial meningitis kills more UK children under the age of five than any other infectious disease.”

Nicky Broekhuizen, Community Support Officer for Scotland at Meningitis Now said: “We are delighted to be working with Xcite, and to have the opportunity to raise awareness of meningitis. By sharing information, which highlights the common symptoms of meningitis and the need to act quickly, lives will be saved.  We also hope that by holding the stalls people will hear about our work and feel able to contact us for support should they have been affected by meningitis.”

1 in 3 of those who survive bacterial meningitis are left with after-effects, many of which are severe such as brain damage, hearing and sight loss, and where septicaemia (blood poisoning) has occurred, loss of limbs and scarring. Viral meningitis is usually less serious than bacterial meningitis but can still leave people with long-lasting after-effects, such as headaches, fatigue and memory problems. For more information on meningitis visit or call the helpline 0808 80 10 388.

Meningitis Now Information Stalls will be visiting Xcite venues on the following dates and locations:

8 Aug 3:30-5:30pm @ Xcite East Calder

1 Sept 3:30-5:30pm @ Xcite Bathgate

1 Sept @ 3:30-5:30pm Xcite Livingston

2 Sept 3:30-5:30pm @ Xcite Armadale

01/06/2016 12:29 3 ways to help you get a bikini body for summer

Here are some tips from Laura @ Xcite Linlithgow to help you look and feel great on the beach this summer. Work it with the help of Xcite!

Size Matters – portion control made easy!

Smaller, more frequent meals will help increase your metabolism. Aim for three meals a day, with small snacks in between. Make sure you get lean protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats each time. Do not cut out carbs – it is a fad!

Success is in the Details

Planning your meals is just as important as planning your workouts. Take some time out every week to make a healthy meal plan and go out and buy it all so you are ready to go. Write a list before you go to stop you from buying what you don’t need and DO NOT shop on an empty stomach as you're entering dangerous waters. Farmers markets are great for buying fresh produce for less pennies.

Make the Most of Your Time

Exercise when you wake up to burn fat instead of carbohydrates. Empty stomach workouts burn stored fat because carbs have been processed in your sleep. If you exercise in the morning, you'll burn fat at an accelerated rate for hours after. Interval training saves time and burns a lot more fat. Studies show more calories are burned by short and high intensity exercises.
