It is common knowledge that eating too much salt can be bad for your health, although many people believe that this is only a cause for concern later in life.

However, eating too much salt during childhood increases blood pressure which can result in the increase of strokes and heart attacks in later life. This is why it is so important to reduce salt intake across all ages. In doing so we can reduce major health risks we may be exposed to and avoid the unnecessary and extortionate health care costs associated with treatment.

National Salt Awareness Week 2018 will run from Sunday 11 March until Monday 18 March. Throughout of the course of the week, the harmful effects of eating too much salt is highlighted. In the UK we currently eat more salt than is recommended, and a big part of that is due to the high amounts hidden in the food we buy.

Xcite cafés across West Lothian have received a Healthy Living Award from NHS Scotland. The accolade is in recognition of the selection of new healthy snacks and homemade meals which have been introduced by Xcite café team. The Healthy Living Award recognises and rewards catering businesses throughout Scotland for making it easier for customers to eat healthily when dining out.
