For World COPD day on the 15 November 2017 we held an organised walk at Xcite Craigswood. The aim of the event was to promote exercise and self-management in patients who have COPD - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
9 participants took part in this event. They had all attended pulmonary rehabilitation in the last year, where Xcite’s Health and Wellbeing team partner up with the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team from St Johns Hospital to deliver exercise and education sessions over a period of 6 weeks. All continued with ongoing activity and many have attended our keep going maintenance classes or have a Gym programme.
On the day the participants collectively covered a distance of 30km and walked for a total of 9 hours and 17 minutes on the treadmills. They all thoroughly enjoyed the event and many good conversations on the day highlighted the positive experience that they had had through pulmonary rehab, ongoing exercise and self-management of their condition.
A big congratulations to all our participants on this achievement!
