***Private Individual Loch Permits are currently suspended due to high levels of Blue Green Algae within Linlithgow Loch. Organised groups and clubs can still take access with prior arrangement subject to carrying out a suitable risk assessment. Warning signs have been placed at various locations around the Loch and will remain in place until levels of algae decrease to a safe limit.  Ingestion of water with Blue green algae in it can cause a potential health risk. For further information please contact West Lothian Council Environmental Health department on 01506 280000.***

Linlithgow Loch User Conduct 

  1. The HES Park Ranger oversees the Peel, and those using the Loch should follow his/her instructions if requested.
  2. Bio Hazard risk:  Marine Craft and equipment recently used in other water locations must be washed before use on loch there is a hosepipe at the rear of Low Port please ask to use it if required.
  3. Blue Green Algae – the Loch is known to develop blooms of Blue / Green algae and HES signage will be displayed around the loch if levels are high. All users take part in activity at their own risk and should assess the risk for themselves prior to launch.,
  4. All Persons using the Loch must wear a suitable buoyancy aid and clothing for the weather.
  5. All users must be competent in both the use of the craft and self-rescue in the event of capsize.
  6. All users take full responsibility for the safety of those in their charge e.g. inexperienced tandem canoe partner.
  7. All users must act responsibly and do not damage any HES property or disturb any wild life and habitats around the park and Linlithgow Loch.
  8. Loch users are not permitted to go on to islands and restricted buoyed areas as these are protected bird sites, in compliance with Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
  9. Boat users must avoid going too close to fishing boats and must keep a distance of at least 20 metres downwind of fishing lines.
  10. Permit holders must be courteous and considerate to all other boat users on the Loch and members of the public
  11. Cars and trailers may be taken down to the Loch through Low Ports yard for the purposes of unloading and loading craft only 
  12. Vehicles and Trailers must not be left anywhere on the Peel whilst activity takes place – they should be parked either at Low Port or the Town Bay Car Park.
  13. Driving onto grass areas is strictly prohibited.
  14. Sailing Boats, Windsurfers and paddle sport craft being used must be insured for third party liability;  craft owner/user will be asked to sign a declaration to this effect on each occasion a permit is requested.
  15. Craft is permitted on Linlithgow Loch on the date shown only. 
  16. Craft may not be left in the Peel area. 
  17. All cars and persons must vacate the Peel by the time stated on the notice board by the main gate.
  18. This permit must be retained and shown on request to the Park Ranger and/or to LPC staff.
  19. The holder of this permit must immediately report via email if anyone other than the permit holder suffers personal injury as a result of your activity today, or if damage is caused to craft belonging to anyone other than the permit holder as a result of your activity today.
