Due to the financial impact of the pandemic, we recently announced plans to restructure the delivery of our outdoor activity and learning services. This will see us vacating the Low Port Centre in Linlithgow and providing activities from other locations across the county.

The future of the Low Port Building remains with WLC, please visit their website for updates.

This means that the Low Port Centre will remain closed to the public. Local groups have been contacted to consider alternative booking arrangements.

For the time being, WLL will continue to manage Linlithgow Loch Permits.

The future of Outdoor Activity

A new programme of outdoor activities will be delivered from other venues across West Lothian as soon as we are able to do so and once government restrictions start to ease. Our popular bikeability programme for schools will continue as normal.

Message from our CEO Tim Dent

“Although we have made significant savings at Low Port Centre since the building transferred to us in 2017, the financial impact of the pandemic on the wider organisation cannot be ignored. With the unprecedented financial challenges we face, we have concluded that the deficit at the Low Port Centre is unsustainable. This situation requires decisive action now to protect the long-term interests of the charity so we can continue to deliver on our vision. One in seven West Lothian residents use West Lothian Leisure facilities, so it’s crucial we protect these core services now and for the future.

Under these plans, outdoor learning and activity will continue but will be delivered differently. West Lothian is blessed with some great outdoor locations and the intention is to continue to provide viable elements of the programme, including school activities from other sites including Beecraigs Country Park, Polkemmet Country Park, Union Canal and the new cycle loop project planned for Kettilstoun Mains, Linlithgow.

It has been an extremely difficult decision to trigger this withdrawal from the Low Port Centre. We understand the role the Centre plays in Linlithgow and the fondness which the public attach to it – but we feel have little alternative given the current situation. We are confident the new programme will continue to meet the needs of schools and wider public "
