Dr Cindy Brook, Chair
Cindy is a business representative and has been a member of the Board since 2005. She was elected as chair in 2010. She has worked in West Lothian as a General Practitioner for 26 years, combining this with being GP member of Lothian Health Board and latterly Clinical Director of the West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership. She has wide experience of primary care and community development, has held several national roles, and was seconded by the Scottish Government in 2003 to work with the World Health Organisation in Copenhagen. Her other interests include international travel, the arts, gardening and has two German Shorthaired Pointers.
David Eardley, Treasurer
David has lived in West Lothian all his life, joined the Board in 2010 and is a user representative. He is an ICAS qualified chartered accountant and works with a range of public sector clients, including health boards and further education colleges. His hobbies include football, golf, keeping fit and travel.
Karen Anderson, Health & Safety Director
Karen is an Employee Representative and joined the Board in September 2014. Originally from Grangemouth, she spent a couple of years at university in Dundee before moving south to work with a children’s outdoor adventure holiday provider. She stayed with them for 6 years working in various locations in the United Kingdom and Southern France before moving home and starting her West Lothian Leisure journey. Karen originally worked at Xcite Linlithgow’s soft play and as a Casual Lifeguard before progressing to work full time as cover Duty Supervisor, Swim Teacher and on reception. Karen had a short spell as a part-time Duty Manager before gaining her level 2 Gym Instructor and moving into the position of Health and Fitness Duty Manager in March 2011. She has worked with the Xcite for 6 years and is currently the Wetside Duty Manager and Head Trainer Assessor at Xcite Linlithgow. Her interests include ballet, reading, theatre and keeping (relatively) fit.
Beverley Greer, Secretary
Beverley joined the Board in June 2013 as a user representative. Her working background is in retail, sports and leisure. Originally from Edinburgh, ten years ago she moved to West Lothian to be with her partner. During this time she has worked as a sports coach with children with disabilities, schools, youth groups, seniors and community education both in West Lothian and Edinburgh. Beverley currently works with youth groups in West Lothian and women’s groups in Edinburgh. She also works part time in John Lewis Edinburgh as a make up artist. Her hobbies are based around sport and a busy family life. Xcite East Calder is where she enjoys the challenge of the gym and training sessions.
Steven Stewart, Chair of the Audit & Finance Sub Committee steven stewart
Steven is a resident of Linlithgow and has been a keen user of Xcite's facilities from a very young age. He learned to swim in Armadale and went on to train at the National Swimming Academy in Stirling, representing Scotland at an international event. He put his experience in the pool to great use by becoming a part-time swim teacher, lifeguard and duty supervisor at Xcite Linlithgow while obtaining his law degree. Steven is currently a contentious construction solicitor with DWF Biggart Baillie in Glasgow and a regular user of Xcite Linlithgow. He joined the Board in April 2013 as a user representative.
Robert is an employee representative and joined the Board in June 2011. He has worked at various locations within the company which have included Xcite Linlithgow, Xcite Armadale and is now currently working at Xcite Livingston as Facility Manager. His interests include spending time with his family and playing football and golf.
Cllr Jim Dixon
is a member of West Lothian Council’s Executive with executive responsibility for Voluntary Organisations. His constituency is Armadale and Blackridge.
Cllr Harry Cartmill
Born Bathgate 1960's – Educated Balbardie Primary School then Bathgate Academy.
Worked as a Country Park Ranger, then worked in the Voluntary Sector before becoming the National Chairperson of the UK Coalition Against Poverty. Currently working part time with Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Michael Connarty as a Parliamentary Aide. Elected to serve the people of Bathgate May 2012. Interests, Community Activities, Animal Welfare Issues (volunteer worker at Dogs Trust) Cycling and Golf.
Cllr Dave King
Councillor King (Labour) is Depute Provost and a member of West Lothian Council's Executive with executive responsibility for Culture and Leisure. His constituency is East Livingston and East Calder.
Jude is a Business Representative and joined the Board in September 2012. She lives in Broxburn and works as Manager of Strategic Development in Edinburgh Napier University's Commercial Unit – The Edinburgh Institute. Jude also chairs the Parent Council at St Nicholas Primary School in Broxburn.
Following his retirement, Alan joined the Board in April 2013 as a business representative. He brings to the Board a wealth of management experience in both the Private and Public sectors including Account Management for a US Bank, Director of a Fund Management Company, Management Consultancy, as well as extensive IT experience gained in the Scottish Health Service and Local Government. Alan and his family have been members of Xcite Linlithgow since inception and he enjoys travel, cycling, golf and regularly attending the gym.
